The Nicer One

If you’re gonna use it everyday, get the nicer one.

Sometimes there’s a price difference with no discernible difference in quality or function or story. In that case, close your eyes and pick one and move on.

But other times you know that the price gap is indicative of one being better than the other.

So if you buy the cheaper one and it doesn’t perform will you be glad you saved the money?

If it’s something you use on a regular basis, the answer will be a resounding No.

And yes, sometimes the high quality expensive one is just too expensive.

Other times it’s not that much more expensive and you’re getting in your way by trying to save a few bucks.

Quickly Recognizing Good Enough

How quickly can you recognize good enough?

The luxury of making your first album with no money is that this skill is built into the process. It’s time to move onto the next thing before your brain has time to even wonder what perfect might sound like.

And it’s the beauty of musical synergy…you get enough parts, instrumentation, melodies and voices that are good enough…and you end up with a perfect song.

»» The foundation of this is putting in the hours and years, developing taste and instincts, listening to the greats and favorites, and developing a sense for where you want to land…that’s how the perfect sense of ‘good enough’ is grown.

Some Of Your Skills

When working with a team of people some of your skills are gonna to the wayside.

No one is leaning on me to rebound the basketball, even though I know how.

Only some of your skills you have are going to apply to the group you’re working with.

You’re there for a reason. Just not every reason.

Ten Reps

If you’re good at ten reps but you only do nine, you’ll never be able to do eleven.

If you can do ten reps but you only do five, doing six will become difficult.

The best way to get good at ten reps is to do eleven.

The Fizz

I didn’t learn about surface tension until middle school…and didn’t understand it until way after that.

When the soda is poured into the glass and the fizz starts speeding up the glass faster than anyone expected and it goes all the way to the lip of the glass… and then goes PAST the top of the glass…how high can it go before it spills over?!

That tension. That’s where the good stuff is. On the edge. This could be the biggest magical dome of fizz that anyone has ever seen…or all at once it could spill over the side and we’re yelling for paper towels.

Considered And Consulted

When we feel left out of the decision making process it’s easy to think ‘why wasn’t I considered’.

Odds are you were considered…just not consulted.

When your drummer shaved his eyebrows, when the questionable dinner reservation got made, when your friend moved away, when your neighbor did a ten month construction project.

All of those decisions could have benefited from your well rounded perspective, but you weren’t consulted. It doesn’t mean they didn’t think of you. It doesn’t mean they don’t care about you. It doesn’t mean your opinion isn’t valuable.

You get considered more than you think you do. And it’s a high honor to be consulted.
