Life is too short not to. And we’re all lonely. And we all want to be less lonely and known a little better and we all want someone to care.
We’re all dying for someone to ask us a good question.
But we can’t control others so we’ll have to go first.
Get to know the people you love.
As a follow up to yesterday about taking it seriously…
Take it seriously but don’t take it personally. And it’s easy to forget that. And it’s easy to want to take it personally and tie it to identity. You’re working so hard, taking it so seriously that the work is all there is to take personally too. What else is there to take personally if not for the serious work?
Keep it easy. You are much more than the good work you take so seriously.
You’re allowed to do great work. You’re allowed to not be defined solely by your work. You’re allowed to drop your shoulders and breathe and understand that while you play an essential role, the world will keep spinning even if you take few minutes off to laugh at the bad reviews.
Whether the goal is selling hope, humor, light heartedness, work ethic, relaxation, excitement, rebellion, contentment…if you really want to do it, you have to take it seriously.
Be serious about hope. Be serious about humor. Be serious about light heartedness…Whatever your thing is, it’s serious business. Take it seriously.
In order to have a chance at someone adopting even a drop of your idea, you have to be the one who is constantly in it. Living it. Connected to the message. Letting the message resonate deep inside and letting it grow so that it can’t help but spill over into real life.

You’re all cut up. Scrapes and gashes and broken bones and a few less teeth. You’re beaten down and bloody.
But you fought the lion.
And you didn’t die.
Which means you won.
When the challenge is akin to fighting the lion, getting beat up doesn’t mean you’re doing a bad job…it means you’re on right on track, it’s simply part of the job for now.
At the time…that was all you had. It was all you knew. It was all you could base your decision off of. It was your level of maturity. It was the ideas and reasons and risks that came to mind. It was your perspective and values and wants and needs.
Now you’re different. Now you would have made a different decision.
But at the time you summoned all wisdom you could and you laid it on the line.
That’s the beauty of being the kind of person who always gives it all they have. You never have to second guess whether or not you did the best you could given the circumstances at the time.
