Do I LIKE this music?
Is this GOOD music?
The answers are all over the place, inconsistent and irrational because when under the influence of music, rationality does not have a strong hold.
Rationality would say: I like things that are good and good things are the things I like.
But the power of music tips that sideways.
You and I can think of lots of music we like but don’t think is good, i.e. guilty pleasures: The Macarena, Who Let The Dogs Out, bad punk bands.
And music we don’t like but know it’s good: Dave Mathews band…(ok, thats my personal example, but you know what I mean).
It’s important to remember that with music you’re appealing to emotion, not rationale.
Although it’s confusing, I don’t think any of us would actually want it any other way.
