It’s a pretty bold move.
March Madness is upon us. And although I never played college basketball, our high school post season happened at the same time…so the two feel tied together. So yes, it’s like I’m the one making the big shots as I watch the college tournament every year.
But the decision to shoot the basketball is gutsy.
You have four teammates who are very good at shooting too. Maybe one of them should take the shot. Who is cutting to the rim? Who is setting the screen? Who is open? Who’s the tallest? How’s my balance and confidence and tension and fatigue and focus?
In the face of all those variables it makes the most sense to not shoot. Too many risks. Too many things pointing toward reconsidering, hesitating, delaying and over thinking.
So many valid reasons not to…but the players shoot anyway. Whether the shot goes in or not is another story…but with the weight of all those factors on their back, they simply decide to take the shot.
